Landfill gas greatly comprises of Carbon Dioxide and Methane but many other gases are produced as a result of decomposition of landfill waste, other prominent gases include Hydrogen Sulphide, Oxygen & Nitrogen. Landfills promote the decomposition of waste to produce this “Biogas” as it is often important for landfills to optimise the gas yield or fuel for the purpose of power generation. As well as obtaining the gas concentrations from landfill boreholes to determine the efficiency it is also very important to account for explosive, asphyxiate and toxic gases escaping off site and to protect the workers from these hazards.
